• Light not working

When diagnosing the problem, I discovered that the ice door was not properly sealing and that the solenoid had appeared to rust/corrode forcing the door open. I replaced most of the ice dispenser internals (solenoid, crank, door, and spring) following the video. The door will now open when dispensing ice (which it does!), and will oddly stay open for a few seconds once I am finished, but does seal properly and the chute/container no longer frosts over. Used the schematic provided to select the parts needing replacement and placed the order. Parts arrived and swapping new for old was simple. For the most part it was a matter of taking out the old and putting in the new. There were a few screws with wheels to replace but that was easy as well. Ordered right hand bucket glide and complete ice bucket assembly (cost more than just the cover, but did so in case other ice bucket assembly parts were worn out). Replacing bucket glide was done relatively easily by first turning off the icemaker, removing the old ice bucket assembly from the glides, removing all screws on the right hand glide, and loosening the screws on the left hand glide. The auger in ice bucket was frozen and locked in place (some how liquid water must have spilled inside and froze the shaft and bushing). When the motor was activated to deliver ice, the jam caused the motor shaft to strip the threads. With the threads stripped, there is no way (that I could find) to get the drive auger off of the shaft (btw, it is left-hand threaded). The old Ice stripper had broken fingers. I realized that even with the new one I had to shave some of the plastic to allow the rotating arms to clear as they push out the ice. I did this very easily with a box cutter razor blade. the Compartment tray was merely a remove and snap into place. Read more

Replaced the hinges and all parts pertaining to hinges on the refrigerator door. Total cost was approx. $83 and it took 1 hour this morning (Saturday). Now the door is closing tightly. The refrigerator is 10 years old. GE brand. Read more

Spliced new and old power cord near the connections in the fridge and connected them. Didn't mess with the factory harnesses or connections inside actual fridge. Read more

I replaced the fan and heater element. The replacement was not an exact match. I had to adjust the parts to get the harness to fit the plug was not the correct size. I cut it off and used the existing plug. Not a big deal and everything else fit. Pretty good for a twenty year old replacement. Also the heater element was a different shape but it fit as is.
