This is a plastic selector knob that comes with a retaining clip, used on the washer's control panel to select cycle settings. It attaches to the control shaft and allows you to choose wash cycles and options. Replace this knob if it is cracked, broken, or if the clip has snapped, causing the knob to spin freely or fall off the shaft.
Replaced rear bearing, upper and lower felts, drive belt. Have repaired dryer before for same problem years ago, knew what to do, on line diagrams helped to move memory. This thermal limiter is a safety fuse designed to protect the dryer from overheating by cutting off power to the heating element if temperatures exceed safe limits.
