The problem turned out to be a loose blower fan rattling around inside the blower housing as the fan blade turned. This replacement part is a ball bearing, and it is intended for use in different types of appliances. This is a genuine replacement part made by General Electric. This ball bearing is found in dryers and is an important part of the machine as a whole, even though this part is very small. Ball bearings are a rolling element that helps carries loads, reduces friction in the machine, and positions moving parts. The main purpose is to reduce rotational friction. A new ball bearing might be needed if the user notices that additional friction is being placed on the tub of the dryer. If the ball bearings are off-balanced, it is possible that the drum of the appliance will wobble and create loud noises during the drying cycles. Be sure the appliance is cooled down before attempting to replace this part. These ball bearings are sold individually even though dryers typically have more than one. This is a genuine OEM part.
