The dryer drum bearing and felt kit includes the rear drum support bearing and the felt seal that lines the front of the drum, keeping it centered and allowing it to spin smoothly without scraping against the dryer cabinet. These two components work together to support the weight of the drum and prevent metal-on-metal contact. If your dryer is making a loud squealing, squeaking, or thumping noise during operation, worn drum bearings and felt are among the most common causes.
The video was quite helpful with step by step instructions. I ordered a belt and idler pulley before dismantling assuming they were the issues. Belt was easy and fit fine but I did not realize the idler pulley was secured with a special fastener, push on cap nut, that would be damaged if removed. So I left it in place. Upon examination of the dryer, I noticed that the belt was intact, though a little worn and hard. However, I noticed that the belt had came of the idler pulley.
