The pump impeller had sheared its connection to the motor shaft and the seal had disintegrated. Subsequent running had eaten the plastic motor shaft to about 2/3rds of its original diameter. Motor (and shaft) are no longer available so I filled the gouged area with JB Weld and then filed it down to original size. Fortunately the shaft doesn't have to be super perfect because the upper portion of the seal spins with the shaft so it just needs to grip and be concentric. Read more
The diffuser has something like a fan underneath that had gone separate from the body. The fan arms were chipped underneath. I thought that might have lead the spray arm to tilt and brush the heat coil, leading to melting on the sides. So, I changed the Diffuser & Lower Spray Arm. I think now the spray arm is parallel and staying above the heat coil. Hopefully it stays that way! Read more
Replaced the heater element, per the video. Also had to connect a new terminal to one of the heater element wires. Once the heater was again connected electrically, the washer completed the entire wash cycle without hesitation. (During the time that the heater element was non-functional, the control "dial" would stop near the bottom, about half way through the cycle, and had to be advanced "one click" manually). Ordered a new tub gasket and baffle seal. Baffle seal replacement required removal of the door. Not too difficult. Tub gasket replacement was easy until I tried to shut the door. The new gasket was a little thicker than the original. The door would not latch. I elongated some holes on the strike - still not enough. I removed some material from the latch mechanism (plastic) with a coarse file. This was enough to allow the door to shut and set the switch. For someone not handy, this would be... Read more
