The Washer Control Knob is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washers. Causes of malfunctions include stripped interior gears losing secure connection to circuit boards over hundreds of wash cycles. Repeated twisting motions can also crack fragile exterior ring structures. Symptoms consist of:

Prior to ordering parts I had pulled the pump strainer basket and cleaned it out. There was both soft and hard scale build up. The tub-to-pump hose was also pretty crusty/slimey. After replacing the door lock mechanism twice (each time it would work for a while then I'd get DL errors), I decided to try the Central Control Unit.
