Thanks to appliancepartspros.com the dishwasher was able to be repaired quickly and under budget. I removed the motor pump assembly and replaced it. I was also able to change out the faulty flood switch and replace the seals to stop the leak. The appliance is once again good as new and ready to run a new load of dishes. Read more

Removed dishwasher from it niche, examined the bottom, and found out what parts I needed. Went on line, found Appliance Parts Pro, looked at their video, saw that I could do it, and ordered the parts. When the parts arrived, removed old parts, and inserted new ones. I found the manufacturers parts drawing and purchased the parts that were needed.The previous home owner had not only removed from he parts but he had also reversed the direction of the dish rack. This was not an obvious source of a leak. The Tower Heater Assembly Nut developed a crack over time due to heat exposure. So the leak was gradual slowly getting worse over time. It was a hairline crack that ran down one of the edges of the nut making it hard to see. In talking to a pro he said it isn't a common problem. Service Manual for GE Dishwasher-EDW4000 was found on the following webpage. http://www.applianceaid.com/pdf/serv-man-EDW4000.pdf Gives enough information to test out the dishwasher.
