Spark Module
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB13X32509

The Spark Module is an OEM part for GE cooktops. Located within the cooktop's control unit, this module is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the burners. Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or lighting intermittently
  • Repeated flashing of the burner indicator lights
  • Clicking or buzzing sounds coming from the control unit

Causes of a failed spark module can be exposure to moisture, dust or debris accumulating inside the control unit over time as well as mechanical or electrical degradation of the ignition components.

This genuine OEM GE replacement part is also compatible with some Kenmore cooktop models that use GE's control systems.

Ordered the correct size drip bowls (All drip bowls have the same outside diameter but different (small, medium or large) inside hole diameters.) Removed 5 knobs by pulling straight up. Removed grate, burner cover, and burner from each of the five burners. Unscrewed two hold down screws from center of each drip bowl. Lifted each drip bowl, pulled wire off the igniter, pushed U-shaped clip off igniter and pulled igniter up thru top of drip bowl, pushed igniter down thru top of new bowl, pushed... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You One burner had difficulty lighting   David M. • American Fork , UT • March 06, 2015

I had concluded that the igniter was going bad and ordered a new one. I also watched the video on how to replace the ignitor. The video explained that after you removed all the screws to the burner assemblies, you needed to lift the range top and replace the ignitor. They did explain that there were clips holding the top down, but implied if you exerted enough force it would pop open. I tried several times, different ways and it would not release. Then I notice that the clips were located... Read more

Surface Burner Valve Switch (Spark Ignition)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB24K5078

This surface burner valve switch mounts on the gas valve stem and signals the spark module when you turn the knob. Replacing a faulty switch restores consistent clicking and reliable ignition on the affected cooktop burner. What it does:

  • Mounts to the surface burner gas valve and closes the ignition circuit when the knob is turned to Lite
  • Sends power to the spark module to create the clicking needed to ignite the flame
  • Symptoms may include: burner won't spark, intermittent ignition, continuous clicking with knobs off, or a burner lights only when another knob is turned
What's included:
  • One valve switch
Install notes:
  • Disconnect electrical power and shut off gas supply; allow the cooktop/range to cool
  • Remove the knob and front panel or manifold cover to access the valve area
  • Note wire positions, transfer the wires to the new switch, and secure it on the valve stem in the same orientation
  • Reassemble, restore power and gas, then test burner ignition

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Clicking from ignitor mode would not stop after burner lit   Jeffrey Maclachlan V. • Nederland , CO • September 03, 2017

Turned out the little switches on the knob shaft had corroded and were staying on. There was constant continuity showing with an ohm meter. Replacing the switches was very easy (always disconnect power to the unit before servicing). Bought a new ignitor module as a backup as they do go out of production after 10 years or so- another cheap and easy fix if needed in the future. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Constant sparking even when no burners turned on and when disconnect the valve switches   Michael S. • Cincinnati , OH • August 15, 2015

Had to replace the igniter module. Some key things I came to learn: 1. If you remove the bottom drawer, you can find an envelope there that is for the technician. It explains some things about how the igniter senses the flame, and some advice about diagnosis. 2. The igniter module on my model of slide-in range is located inside a box that is visible when you remove the bottom drawer. No need to slide the range out. 3. At each gas valve, there is a separate valve switch WB13ML or similar. It is... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I needed to remove the drip pans in a gas cooktop in order to remove the cooktop surface in order to replace an igniter switch while at it i replaced two corroded drip pans   Betsy M. • Richmond , VA • June 05, 2016

I wrote this short article on my repair procedure. I hope that you'll be able to use it. Replacing Drip Pans in a Sealed-Burner Gas Cooktop or Range Sealed burner drips drip pans (burner bowls) are attached to aluminum burners with steel screws that can corrode and bond into the aluminum, thereby making it impossible to remove the screws with a screw driver. Years of boil-overs that leave liquid trapped in the hot, moist environment under the burner trim rings increase the rate of... Read more
