The Spark Module is an OEM part for GE cooktops. Located within the cooktop's control unit, this module is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the burners. Consisting of electronic components and wiring, the spark module works with other systems to reliably and safely light the gas or electric burners.
Symptoms of a bad spark module include:
Causes of a failed spark module can be exposure to moisture, dust or debris accumulating inside the control unit over time as well as mechanical or electrical degradation of the ignition components.
This genuine OEM GE replacement part is also compatible with some Kenmore cooktop models that use GE's control systems.
Ordered the correct size drip bowls (All drip bowls have the same outside diameter but different (small, medium or large) inside hole diameters.) Removed 5 knobs by pulling straight up. Removed grate, burner cover, and burner from each of the five burners. Unscrewed two hold down screws from center of each drip bowl. Lifted each drip bowl, pulled wire off the igniter, pushed U-shaped clip off igniter and pulled igniter up thru top of drip bowl, pushed igniter down thru top of new bowl, pushed... Read more

Second repair after 10 years of service - igniter had cracked and spill overs were causing the others to misfire. This was a two-step process. I took apart the cooktop to see what parts were neded. Screws were all rusted, I had to drill ome out. The burner gaskets broke during the process and needed replacement. One of the burners had deformed due to excess heat. After that initial diagnose, I reassembled the cooktop without the igniters and ordered all the parts I needed. The second stage was... Read more

We ordered the parts and watched the help videos. It was "almost" exact in telling us what we needed to go. Our cooktop is 16 years old and had a ton of greasy buildup that had slowly gotten down into the knobs and was a sticky mess to undo. However the parts fit perfectly, and after 2 hours of careful "home engineering" we made it happen and everything works aweome now. My dad then decided to dissect the older switches, and proclaimed that we probably could have cleaned the connecters... Read more
Well after looking the issue up on YouTube I first tried the cleaning of the burners no help. So I decided I needed to replace either the harness switch assembly or the spark module. I decided that since I had to remove the glass top and install either and put if all back together before I would know if it worked, I just did both at once since it seemed it had to be one or the other. Got the parts ordered for the correct model, turned off the gas and pulled the top. Took about 90 minutes,... Read more
