Microwave stopped heating or makes humming noise before shutting off? The high voltage capacitor often fails first. DIY repair in under 30 minutes.
Main Fuse did not open, only fuse for high voltage section was opened. Prior to the fuse blowing a louder than normal hum was heard from microwave for 1-2 seconds prior. Easy fix is the high voltage capacitor, so first checked the voltage across the capacitor terminals to ensure capacitor was discharged. Typically should be reasonably discharged within 30sec-1min assuming drain resistor is still in place. Removed the high voltage cap, and checked the capacitance and did not get a reading.... Microwave has no power or won't turn on? This fuse cartridge protects against electrical overload. Requires removing outer cover to access and replace.
Removed microwave from the built in cabinet (probably the hardest part) and took off top cover (screws on side and back). Had previously blown the power fuse 2 times in this microwave, so I checked the fuse first using an ohmmeter. This time fuse was good. Traced the power wires around to top side of microwave and saw the overheat "therm" switch. I believe the therm is installed there as a safety feature to open the power circuit to the microwave in case something was to overheat for any... Read more

The tech spent less than 10 minutes pushing buttons on the unit and 20 to 30 minutes in his vehicle getting pricing to replace all of the controls. He offered us two options on top of the $140 service call: $4000 to fix or replace it ($5500). We had to at least try to fix it ourselves, so we cut the power, removed the unit from the wall (so heavy), removed the display board and discovered the service manual in there, which was very helpful, but was missing one of the code error descriptions we...
