Keith G Houston , TX April 27, 2020 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave JVM1851WH04 Microwave blowing fuse for Magnetron / high voltage circuit (humming noise prior to fuse opening). Main Fuse did not open, only fuse for high voltage section was opened. Prior to the fuse blowing a louder than normal hum was heard from microwave for 1-2 seconds prior. Easy fix is the high voltage capacitor, so first checked the voltage across the capacitor terminals to ensure capacitor was discharged. Typically should be reasonably discharged within 30sec-1min assuming drain resistor is still in place. Removed the high voltage cap, and checked the capacitance and did not get a reading. Then checked the resistance across the terminals and found it was shorted with 1.5Ohms. Definitely bad capacitor. Diode checked out OK. Did not check anything on the magnetron and transformer since would require removing from wall. Replaced Fuse and Capacitor, and microwave working again. Maury L Thornton , CO December 03, 2018 Appliance: General Electric Microwave PNM1871SM1SS Our GE profile microwave oven stopped heating water I found on the web that the growl I heard when I tried to heat water, unsuccessfully, was a bad magnetron. But I wanted to replace the HV capacitor and diode also on my 10-year-old GE Profile Microwave Oven. The service I received from Appliance Parts Pros.com was superb. Quick delivery and easy repair got my oven back in like-new condition. Thanks for your help APP.com! - Maury Logue Read More...
