Fan motor was making squeaking sounds and then quit. Had previously (about 2 years ago) replaced the thermostat. Ordered new fan motor & replaced. Note: it was difficult to get motor out because of fan blades. Did not know that it just slides off. Easy to replace - just two nuts holding motor to bracket. Had to reroute one wire because spade lugs on new motor are 90 degrees rotated from original. Once I got new motor passed brackets slid the fan blade on - there is a flat spot on the shaft... Replaced the thermostat and viola ... cold refrigerator! There was not much on-line information to use, but a little technical problem solving accurately diagnosed the issue. To ensure the system was able to run (i.e. compressor OK), I carefully shorted the questionable thermostat and ran the compressor and condenser fan for 5 minutes. The control was the problem. The repair took 30 minutes and now our frig is working great. Read more
