Refrigerator not cooling or freezer warm? A failed evaporator fan motor stops cold air circulation. DIY repair in under 30 minutes with basic tools.
Used Google to troubleshoot the issue. Inside the freezer I took the back off. Noticed two things. The evaporator motor was not turning and the top half of the coils were frozen over. Obvious fan not spinning issue. I felt the motor and it was hot. Spun the fan it it started spinning. Put it all back together. Ran OK for 5-6 more days then same issue. Refrigerator was not cooling, but was continuously runing & freezer compartment was extremely cold. Determined that fan assembly that takes freezer air & circulates to the refrigerator didn't seem to be working. Determined that the fan assembly motor was not rotating. This thermostat is a temperature safety device that opens the circuit if temperatures climb beyond the safe threshold. Replacing a failed thermostat helps protect the appliance from overheating and restores normal heating performance.
Tested start relay and fan with multimeter both passed. The condenser would start only if the thermostat was on the highest setting and the refrigerator would cool for a while, stop and not restart unless I adjusted the defrost timer. Decided to replace the thermostat, defrost timer and defrost thermostat. The refrigerator is working as expected. Metal support bar that mounts to the refrigerator liner to hold the crisper cover frame and glass level. Replace if broken, missing, or bent.
I had to cut down the length of the bar using a Dremel so that it would fit into the channels, it was originally too wide to fit into the fridge. One thing to note, only cut it as wide as the actual fridge; you can get it into the plastic shelf structure by sliding it too much into one side, and then guiding it into the other side. Read more

Fridge clicks or hums but won't cool? A failed start relay prevents the compressor from starting. Simple DIY repair—just pull off and replace.
Used a muiltimeter to test all parts and ohm'ed out all parts. found out condenser fan motor seized up [open winding in motor] replaced that, and found that also caused the compressor overload and relay to fail, from over heating and over cycling, replaced both parts, powered up the refrigerator retested all electrical parts checked amp reading on all parts under load conditions,works good know, hope to get another 15 years out of this refrigator, its a maytag. over 20 years old. After doing some research, I guessed it was either a faulty defrost timer, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, or some combination of those. Using part location diagrams for my Amana BC120TW I started by looking for the evaporator coils since they obviously weren't producing enough cold. Upon removing the evaporator coil cover, I found the evaporator coils frozen into 1 solid block of ice.
