I was ready to replace the entire unit (cracked glass top and a non-working burner) but with a bit a research and patience I realized that it was an easy DIY repair job. In order to replace the burner I had to remove the glass top, which required lifting the unit off the counter (need to disconnect the downdraft duct) and unscrewing the top's frame (10 screws).
