I ordered a replacement motor which was less expensive than a whole new base. I took apart the base, cleaned it up, swapped the motor, and put it back together. Read more
New control did not help. Control has a plastic projection on each end that you must pinch with a pliers to release the old control But besides it has 2 spring steel tabs on the motor side of the control. These also have to be flattened against the control to allow the control to drop out of its hole. It is a trick to get all 4 to clear at the same time.
