The Ice Dispenser Lever is an OEM component specifically designed for Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators with built-in ice dispensers. Located inside the ice and water compartment, the lever is responsible for releasing cubed or crushed ice when engaged. Symptoms of a bad ice dispenser lever include:
Causes of a bad lever can be worn gears or connector linkages inside the ice dispensing mechanism from repeated use over time. This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, and select Kenmore fridge models.
I replaced the Ice Dispenser Lever. Since the replacement part is only available in white and my fridge is bone, I replaced also the Water Dispenser Lever, so it looks much better. I followed the instructions in the video, which were very useful and very well done. My problem was that the refrigerator is a KitchenAid built-in, while the instructions were for a Whirlpool, so the removal of the faceplate was quite different from what was shown in the video and more difficult. It was just a door tray. I simply put it in place. I entered my appliance manufacturer and model number, entered the part I needed and they sent the right part. Sounds easy doesn't it? I tried another company first did the same thing and got the wrong part and it looked used. I sent it back (at my expense) with their RMA and a month later still, I'm still waiting for a refund. Ordered a new icemaker from Appliance Pros after viewing the video and determining I could accomplish the task. When the icemaker arrived (promptly) I installed it without difficulty after reviewing the video from Appliance Pros again.
