The washer lid switch actuator is a small component that triggers the safety switch when the lid is closed. Located on the washer lid, it presses against the lid switch to signal that it's safe to operate. Replace if the washer won't start even with the lid closed, or if it continues running with the lid open.
I ordered a door/lid switch kit and an actuator and replaced them both. I probably didn't need the actuator, but it probably didn't hurt to replace it. The only issue I had was that the switch didn't seem to fit that well when installed on it's own, along with the actuator. So, I used the plastic shield which I had, along with the switch and actuator, as well as the old screws, as the screws that came with the kit were not long enough to accommodate the switch, actuator, and... This washer lid covers the top of your washing machine and contains the safety mechanisms that prevent the washer from operating when open. It houses the lid lock and safety switches that detect when the lid is properly closed. Replace this part if your washer won't start, the lid won't stay closed, or if the safety lock mechanism is broken.

It cost $25 for rethreading kit! Once... Read more

Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! It worked! This is not a fix but it allowed me to finish the load of unwashed clothes and told me which part was bad (do not run washer jumped like this.......fire hazard!) Ordered the lid switch and it was an easy repair. A $14.00 switch was a lot cheaper than a $450.00 washer. Thanks appliance parts... Read more
