  • The washer not starting or not responding when the lid is closed
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or not completing the wash cycle
  • Error codes indicating a problem with the lid switch

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Old Maytag top load washer would fill but won't agitate, spin or dump water   George M. • Chicago , IL • May 05, 2019

We were concerned, to put it mildly. Our legacy washing machine, over 30 years old, had finally bitten the dust. Didn't spin, didn't agitate. The water filled up, and just sat there, getting old and gross. Now we on the hook for a new washer that we couldn't afford right now. $600-$700, plus installation. Or were we? My wife submitted our problem and details to the forums here at appliance parts pro, hoping for a reply within a few days. In less than 2 hrs (at 2 in the morning!), Jake... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Did not drain faulty pump   Angela T. • Madison , SD • September 08, 2014

I've never fixed a major appliance, so I was quite proud to be able to fix our washing machine. My husband likes to hire repairmen for such issues, but I like to avoid the cost if at all possible. First, I searched online for the cause of the washer not draining. Forums and youtube videos informed me that it was either a faulty pump or clogged hoses. After watching some DIY videos, I removed the front panel which revealed a fairly simple setup inside: a big tub, the motor, and a pump with two... Read more

This repair kit contains seals and components needed to fix leaks around the washer's tub mounting stem. It prevents water from escaping the wash basket area during operation. Use this kit when you notice water pooling under your washer or leaking from the tub assembly.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leakage from tub seal   Gabriel S. • Petaluma , CA • March 15, 2015

I ordered the tub seal and stem seal kits along with the much needed spanner wrench. After viewing the video online several times and taking notes along the way I was ready to tackle the repair. After taking everything apart, I cleaned all areas thoroughly then addressed the rusty areas and mineral deposits found in the tub. Soaking the tub in vinegar and baking soda overnight helped loosen the built up deposits enough so I could carefully scrape them off with a spatula. This was very time... Read more

Brake Assembly
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP6-2011900

The Brake Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component plays a crucial role in stopping the washer drum from spinning at the end of the spin cycle. It ensures that the drum comes to a complete stop, allowing for safe unloading of laundry and preventing potential damage to the machine. Brake removal tool: TJ038315

Over time, the brake assembly can wear out or become damaged due to frequent use and the stresses of stopping a spinning drum. If the brake assembly fails, it can lead to issues with the washer’s spin cycle and overall performance.

Symptoms of a bad brake assembly include:

  • The drum not stopping quickly after the spin cycle
  • Loud noises or grinding sounds during or after the spin cycle
  • The washer shaking or vibrating excessively
  • Clothes remaining too wet after the spin cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You After a process of elimination it turned out to be the brake assembly   Ken M. • Pierson , MI • September 13, 2016

I first replaced the two drive belts and the motor springs. That didn't fix it although they did need replacing. I then replaced the two bearings and the brake assy. The washer runs like new. If you replace the brake assembly, you should also replace the bearings. It will save a tear down later on. The Maytag repairman wanted $600.00 dollars to do the job. I did it for less than $200.00. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bearings were worn out makeing a lot of noise   Lawrence L. • Largo , FL • August 08, 2015

I had a lot of problems removing the spin hub, I had to use an air impact wrench to un screw it even then it was very hard, it did not go easy with the hammer & pipe wrench as shown in the video. It was also very hard to remove the bottom spin bearing I had to cut the bearing retainer with a dremel tool so I could get my puller on it. After I struggled to get it apart The repair went very easy, I used brake spring pliers to remove the springs it worked like a charm. I am very pleased with... Read more
