Found the wonderful parts diagrams you most generously share online and a couple of YouTube videos . I determined it should be repairable. In my cast the agitator shaft was frozen (rusted) in place. I was very fortunate to have been able to eventually remove it with the use of a lot of BP penetrating oil and heat. Long and short the replacement parts fit perfectly and the washer is running like new. Special thanks to the online support make my repair possible. Read more

Removed the agitator, then the spacer and lock screw, then the inside tub, then the mounting stem I replaced the agitator collar to fix the issue The hardest part on this project was removing the locks with the spanner wrench. It is not easy to break loose if the machine has never been repaired in 15 years. You need the rubber hammer and really hit hard to get loose. This is what took the longest. I ordered the tub seal and stem seal kits along with the much needed spanner wrench. After viewing the video online several times and taking notes along the way I was ready to tackle the repair. After taking everything apart, I cleaned all areas thoroughly then addressed the rusty areas and mineral deposits found in the tub. I first replaced the two drive belts and the motor springs. That didn't fix it although they did need replacing. I then replaced the two bearings and the brake assy. The washer runs like new. If you replace the brake assembly, you should also replace the bearings. It will save a tear down later on. The Maytag repairman wanted $600.00 dollars to do the job. I did it for less than $200.00. I had a lot of problems removing the spin hub, I had to use an air impact wrench to un screw it even then it was very hard, it did not go easy with the hammer & pipe wrench as shown in the video. It was also very hard to remove the bottom spin bearing I had to cut the bearing retainer with a dremel tool so I could get my puller on it.
