My dryer would heat intermittently. I noticed that when it would fail to heat I could hear a faint chatter sound which I presumed to be the solenoid valves on the gas valve not opening as expected. I considered just ordering the solenoid valves but reasoned that the solenoids may be sticking due to a mechanical issue with the gas valve itself. I chose to replace the whole gas valve assembly.
