I determined that the most likely culprit was the Damper unit malfunctioning. So I went on line searching for a new one. My refrigerator is 12 years old, so it wasn't easy to find one. Appliance parts pro had it and the cost was comparative to what Maytag wanted. I chatted with the parts rep. and emailed back and forth a few times before deciding that I could replace this part. First replaced start capacitor but that did not work, the start kit which has a relay and overload protector is what was needed. The relay is actually the only part that was bad I believe. After pulling the relay off the compressor you could shake it and it rattled, the new one did not. Really pretty easy and definitely cheaper than a service call. Read more
