There is apparently a weakness in the design of the stemware gripper, since both grippers in the dishwasher exhibited the same fault in the same places. Fortunately, replacing them is both inexpensive and a snap (literally - they just snap into place). This was not an obvious source of a leak. The Tower Heater Assembly Nut developed a crack over time due to heat exposure. So the leak was gradual slowly getting worse over time.
