You do not have to take the bottom pan off. Raise the side up and put a block of wood under it for safety. Take hacksaw blade or bolt cutter and cut off bent end off axle. Push out old axle. Install new one, crimp the end and your are done. 10 to 15 min. No problems at all. Read more

This was easier then I made it. Originally took the actual ice maker out without removing the whole system from the door. There are 3 silver screws that do that hold the whole mechanism in place, as opposed to the 5 white screws that hold the ice maker in place.
