Ice won't dispense or drive spins freely? This auger drive coupler connects the motor to the ice bucket. Moderately difficult repair with basic tools.
The auger in ice bucket was frozen and locked in place (some how liquid water must have spilled inside and froze the shaft and bushing). When the motor was activated to deliver ice, the jam caused the motor shaft to strip the threads. With the threads stripped, there is no way (that I could find) to get the drive auger off of the shaft (btw, it is left-hand threaded). I looked for a site that sold replacement parts for my make of GE refrigerator. I found AppliancePartsPros, and was very surprised at how organized it was. By entering the model number of my refrigerator, I was shown a set of (approximately) 8 general parts diagrams for my refrigerator. I chose the ice making/dispensing diagram. Plastic grille that sits in your refrigerator's ice and water dispenser well. Supports cups and allows drips to pass through. Replace if cracked or missing.
The ease of repair in my story is not the installation of the drip pan but how easy it was to order the correct part and how quickly it came. I have a new source for parts. Read more

Changed cover / evaporator unit (could have salvaged the old one but it had a lot of black mold and not worth effort. Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine.
