Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Intermitten mini explosions in the oven when trying to use   Jerry L. • Canton , GA • December 28, 2015

Troubleshot the oven by checking the broiler which worked good (same fuel valve). After reading the some tips about troubleshooting the Glow Ignitor I could see the broiler ignitor got white hot and the oven ignitor only got bright orange (orange to red causes intermittent ignition or mini explosions). Watched the how to video and it was good information. You should be observant about which openings in the back of the oven as to where the two wires are coming out of. My oven is over 12 years... Removed 3 screws on top of door, 3 screws on bottom if door which released glass front. Then removed 4 nuts on sheet metal window cover to get to window. To get to the broken glass there was one tab on the corner of the window frame that had to be bent upward to loosen the frame. Range Downdraft Exhaust Blower Wheel
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPY707985

This is a blower wheel used in the downdraft exhaust ventilation system of a range or cooktop. It mounts on the motor shaft and draws smoke, steam, and cooking odors down and out through the vent ductwork. Replace this part if the exhaust fan is noisy, vibrating excessively, or not moving air effectively despite the motor running.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Stove downdraft stopped working   Robert B. • Gaithersburg , MD • March 08, 2016

I replaced the downdraft fan and fan motor of my 25 year old JennAire C301 cooktop. The issue was getting the fan/motor assembly out in such a tight place. I had to first remove the fan cover, cut the wires, then the assembly came out. Putting back wasn't as tough although getting the cover back on (over the motor) was a bit of a strain. Wired it back, turned it on, and was thrilled. Now I'll replace the knobs and burners and we're back in business. Read more

Unplug the range from the electrical outlet and allow the cooktop ample time to cool down before trying to replace it. Wear work gloves for safety during this process. This part is compatible with cooktops that are manufactured by Jenn-Air and Maytag. It is sold individually and comes from the manufacturer.

Motor Isolator (Vibration-Damping Grommet), Single
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP71003558

This motor isolator is a vibration-damping grommet that cushions the motor mount to reduce noise and prevent metal-to-metal contact. Replacing worn isolators helps keep the motor seated correctly and the appliance running quieter and smoother.

  • Helps reduce rattling or buzzing noises during fan/blower operation
  • Supports proper motor alignment and mounting stability
  • A common maintenance item when rubber mounts become cracked, hardened, or missing
What's included: One motor isolator grommet Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and allow hot components to cool before service
  • Access the motor mounting points; replace isolators in matched locations
  • Inspect adjacent mounts and hardware; replace additional isolators as needed
  • Do not overtighten fasteners—compress the grommet evenly without deforming it

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The oven was not staying up to set temperature   Pat M. • Kansas City , MO • December 05, 2023

I first tested and replaced the temperature sensor. Since this is a slide-in range, I managed to pull it out just enough to access the back without disconnecting the downdraft and gas line. (For wall models this would not be the case.) Unfortunately, that did not do it. Next I replaced the lower heating element because it was a little below the ohms level it should be at. No go. So far, both of these were pretty easy to do and were relatively inexpensive so I wasn't too frustrated. Then I... Read more

Shoulder Screw, 1
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP74003976

A shoulder screw that secures appliance components and provides a precise pivot or spacer point. Replaces a missing or worn screw to restore alignment, reduce rattling, and keep panels and assemblies securely in place. What it does:

  • Provides a fixed-diameter shoulder for pivots, spacers, or mounting points in assemblies.
  • Holds panels and moving components at the correct distance to prevent binding or friction.
  • A missing or worn shoulder screw can cause misalignment, rattling, or loose parts during operation.
  • Used where a smooth-bearing surface and controlled clearance are required between parts.
What's included: One shoulder screw. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance (unplug or shut off breaker) before servicing.
  • Handle small fasteners carefully to avoid dropping into assemblies; magnetic pickup tools can help.
  • Start threads by hand to avoid cross-threading; tighten snugly but avoid overtightening.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Replace igniter on gas oven (maytag)   Jeffrey H. • Pelham , NH • January 03, 2020

I had to remove the oven door, which I learned is made to come off without tools. Then took out the bottom by removing two screws and lifting. Removed the screws attaching the igniter, pulled wires thru back until I could get the connector and disconnect. When the new igniter arrived, I had to change the connector. I cut the one off the old one, and spliced to the new one using solder and shrink tubing. Just reverse the procedure to install. I replaced the screws with new ones. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice bucket housing had disintegrated and the motor twisted off   Lloyd W. • Streamwood , IL • January 08, 2026

I pulled out the old housing and unplugged the motor. It pretty much came out in pieces. Remove the plastic from the motor, then had to take a pair of vice grips to hold the spindle in place to remove the auger. Remove what was still attached to the old Housing. Cleaned everything up and put the whole unit back together. The motor looked like it was somewhat cooked but still worked, so I ordered a new motor and auger to replace it.
