Searched online what could be causing the problem after mopping water for a good 30 minutes. Chatted online with a specialist at Appliance Parts Pros. After trying several things by process of elimination I was advised that the problem was more than likely the water level switch. Ordered the part. It arrived in 2 days. Missing plastic clip on lid switch was the problem. Replaced plastic clip, washer operates good as new. Pliers are needed to seat the plastic piece securely onto the lid switch. Read more
The video was very helpful. the hardest part is getting off old rusted parts. I had to use a hacksaw to remove one of the old clamps. I had to open the bottom of the washing machine to remove of the other clamp. Putting the new parts on was easy. Getting everything apart was a challenge. This transmission and brake assembly includes the tub seal and is used on many General Electric top load washers.
Replaced transmission and brake assembly. The video on appliancepartspros.com was very helpful. A few comments: 1) On my model, there was no wiring harness to unhook to detach the lid switch, as was shown on the video. Instead, I had to remove the switch itself. Underneath, one of the short edges of the switch has a clip that you depress, and then you can poke the switch up. Pulled front panel off. Unbolted and removed top cover. Removed tub trim cover. Removed and replaced gasket and dampers. Put it a back together took about 20 minutes Read more
