I simply replaced the knobs. Just frustrating because this small part surrounding metal rod to attach knobs is obviously defective and should be improved by Kitchen Aid. Read more

Two out of Four of my "Push To Light" stove top valves we stuck! Wouldn't turn. I'd broken the inside of both knobs trying to use. Used my Mo# to order new valves. Bought 4 knobs as well. What you will need: * replacement parts * small and regular Phillips screwdrivers * small wrench * soapy water in a spray bottle or leak detection spray Take apart the top of the stove control unit 1) turn off the gas to the stove, in my case I cannot get to the shutoff valve easily so I ended up turning off the electricity to the stove at the fuse box as that forces an emergency shutdown of the gas supply internally of the stove. 2) remove all 5 knobs, the grates at the top and open the oven... Rather than replacing the whole ignition switch harness, I cut out the broken switch and replaced it with Burner Ignition Switch WB24K10017 / AP2632529. Wire stripper, small wire nuts, and electrical tape were also used. At first, the new switch was constantly on when the knob was in the off position. The gas valve shaft has a "U" shape. The timer knob simply pulls off the shaft with a solid, steady pull. Cleaned the timer cavity of lint/dust buildup. Aligned the keying flat of the shaft and knob and pushed the new knob on with careful, steady pressure until it was obviously seated. No tools required other than a vacuum. The door switch would sometimes not shut the dryer off when the door was opened. New switch came with new fast-on connectors. Went through some lengthy internet exchanges with an enormously patient person at Appliance Parts and after a couple of tries, complicated by an oven ID tag that was only partially legible, she was able to find the right dials and sent them promptly.
