This small plastic clip secures the tine rows to the pivot points on the dishwasher rack, allowing the tines to fold down or lock into the upright position. It snaps onto the rack rail and holds individual tine rows in place. Replace this clip if your rack tines are loose, won't stay upright, or have fallen off during a wash cycle.
I didn't use any tools. I pulled the lower rack out of dishwasher, studied the clip opposite side of tines (still working), and based upon observation, installed replacement part. Without the new clip the tines wouldn't stay secure to hold dishes in place. My only issue is the online schematic illustration.
