Heater Thaw (Defrost Heater)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR51X10138

This thaw heater is the evaporator defrost heating element that melts frost during the refrigerator's defrost cycle. Replacing a failed heater helps restore normal defrosting and reduce frost buildup that can restrict cooling. What it does:

  • Heats the evaporator coil during the defrost cycle to melt accumulated ice
  • Prevents excessive frost buildup that can block airflow and reduce cooling efficiency
  • Common symptoms of a failing heater: heavy frost or ice on the evaporator/back wall, reduced cooling, or long compressor run times
  • Works as part of the appliance's defrost system alongside the defrost thermostat and control
What's included: One thaw heater Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before starting any repair
  • Access typically requires removing interior panels and the evaporator cover; handle the evaporator and wiring carefully
  • Inspect associated defrost components (thermostat, timer/control) if problems persist; replace only parts confirmed faulty

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The fan in the lower draw was not working   Michael K. • Trinity , FL • February 16, 2025

I replaced the fan and heater element. The replacement was not an exact match. I had to adjust the parts to get the harness to fit the plug was not the correct size. I cut it off and used the existing plug. Not a big deal and everything else fit. Pretty good for a twenty year old replacement. Also the heater element was a different shape but it fit as is. Element, 6" Plug - In 240V
Genuine Bosch part
By: Bosch
Part Number: 00484782

The Surface Element is an OEM part for Bosch cooktop and ranges. Measuring 6 inches across, it provides focused heat from below for smaller sized cookware.

Causes of a bad 6" plug-in element generally relate to normal wear and tear over time. Spills left on the coils could potentially cause issues by corroding internal wiring or damaging heating components.

Symptoms of a bad narrow surface element can include:

  • The element heating intermittently or not at all
  • Only parts of the coil visibly heating up
  • Buzzing or clicking coming from below the element
  • Tripped circuit breakers affecting that specific element

This genuine OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau and select Kenmore models.
