I used a set of ring pliers to remove the old retaining ring, then spread the plastic ribs around the fan motor shaft with a small flat bladed screwdriver to ease removal of the old fan blade. I reversed the process to replace the blade, gently tapping a socket from my socket wrench set placed over the motor shaft and ribs with a small rubber mallet. Removed the brackets that sheltered the fan blade, removed the fan clip (was a little difficult but a needle nose plier was helpful), removed broken fan blade collar. Attached new fan blade and clip. Getting the new fan blade seated on the stem was difficult. I used a socket (so that the stem had room to move down onto the fan) and a rubber mallet on the socket to achieve a complete seating.
