I ordered a freezer temperature control. I ordered from you because parts are certified. Last thing I wanted was to go through the replacement process with a part that didn’t work. I’m not a handy person by nature, and I have zero common sense. I watched the awesome instructional video that you provided with my order several times. Before receiving or even opening the package, I felt that I knew what to expect because I watched the video so many times. Before beginning, I made sure I had as... Read more

Defrost Thermostat
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR50X10068

The Defrost Thermostat is an OEM replacement part designed for use in GE refrigerators. This component acts as a safety device in the refrigerator's defrost system, preventing the freezer from overheating during the defrost cycle. It works by monitoring the temperature of the evaporator coil and turning off the defrost heater when the coil gets warm enough, thus safeguarding the freezer from getting too hot.

Causes of a bad defrost thermostat can include corrosion, a blown fuse inside the thermostat, or wear and tear over time, which can lead to malfunctioning of the refrigerator's defrost system.

Symptoms of a bad Defrost Thermostat include:

  • Frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer
  • The refrigerator is not cooling properly
  • The freezer is cold but the refrigerator is warm
  • The defrost heater not turning on

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

This part fixes the following symptoms
  • Freezer not defrosting
  • Freezer too cold
  • Not dispensing water
  • Ice maker not making ice

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge side wasn't staying cold massive ice build up in freezer ice blockage in fan duct   Christopher M. • Yorba Linda , CA • December 15, 2014

Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks ! Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Not cooling properly eventually evaporator fan failure   Richard D. • Wood Ridge , NJ • April 25, 2016

My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases. Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was... Read more

Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. Poped off plastics caseing inside the frigerator. Unscrewed 4 screws holding black fan inplace. Followed yellow wire to locate white sensor. A word of thanks to AppliancePartsPros - they delivered in one day. Ordered at 4PM CDT and received the part by noon the next day. Also, Alicia in the help department was able to locate an electrical diagram for my old freezer. This was essential for proper setup and her persistence in tracking down the diagram was top notch. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You This was for a friend of mine his refrigerator stopped cooling   Gary G. • Ofallon , MO • July 12, 2015

This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Defrost Timer
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304518034

The Defrost Timer is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire upright freezers. It serves as a crucial component responsible for regulating automatic defrost cycles.

Causes of a faulty defrost timer relate to 20,000+ hours of constant exposure to freezer temperatures as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Such extremes can compromise electrical switching mechanisms over prolonged usage periods.

Symptoms of a failed defrost timer include:

  • Inability to initiate automatic defrost modes
  • Excessive ice and frost accumulation inside cabinet
  • Warm areas detected due to impaired fan circulation
  • Diagnostic codes indicating defrosting problems

This genuine Frigidaire replacement part is compatible with Kelvinator and some Kenmore units as well.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Freezer would not shut down kept running continuously   Jd F. • Russellville , AR • October 22, 2014

Suspected it was the thermostat, since temperature stayed the same at multiple settings over a 24 hr period. There was only three components inside the freezer besides the evaporator, the fan was working, so I decided to just go ahead and replace the thermostat and defrost thermostat. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Amana model afd2535deb freezer cold fridge too warm not defrosting   Dan R. • Woodruff , SC • November 09, 2015

Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. Obviously, the auto defrost cycle had not been running, or was short-cycling. Manually defrosted. Found this link for running diagnostic tests on the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Frost buildup. Food not completely frozen. Running continuously and refrigerator too warm   Robert K. • Louisville , KY • February 07, 2021

By reading stories of other customers who had bought this part, the first thing I looked for when troubleshooting my near-18 year old Frigidaire was for the top to be erupted or raised up on the bimetal defrost. It was truly a case of “look for the simple explanation first.” Once I determined that the bimetal defrost appeared to be the culprit, I ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros. We just had the Defrost Timer replaced less than 90 days ago. Called the appliance company who came to diagnose ($109) and it was the same part, (a $34 part). The part was warrantied, but not the service, which was $270. I saw them install the part in July... less than 5 minutes!
