The Infinite Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges and cooktops. This part controls the temperature of the small burner on electric ranges and cooktops by regulating the power supplied to the burner. The infinite switch allows for precise temperature settings, providing the flexibility to cook a wide variety of dishes by adjusting the heat level as needed. 

Over time, infinite switches can wear out or malfunction, leading to issues with controlling the burner's temperature.  

Symptoms of a bad Infinite Switch include:

• The burner does not heat or heats intermittently
• The burner heats to full power regardless of the setting
• Inability to adjust the burner's temperature accurately
• Physical damage to the switch, such as cracking or melting
