Brent B Centerville , UT November 24, 2014 Appliance: Model KITCHENAID KSM5PPWH Our kitchenaid mixer speed control lever plastic knob decided to crack After ordering the speed lever, I watched one of the videos about disassembling the mixer. I followed the instructions pretty much to the letter except I found I spent more time cleaning and air dusting around the motor to get the accumulated flour dust out. The insides of the mixer haven't been touched in 30 years. About the most difficult part of disassembly was the 4 screws holding the mixer head to the stationary base. these screws have beveled cuts designed to lock the screws in place, I had to use a little more force than expected to break them lose. The rest of the disassembly went fine. the lever was easily removed without any disassembly of the internal motor parts and re assembly went very quick. not sure how long it actually took but was certainly less than 15 minutes total. Even with shipping being more than the actual part, it was great to know I was able to do this myself and to avoid the cost of a repair shop. Thanks Appliance Pro's for a great all around experience. I'll be back, but I hope it won't be soon. Read More... 23 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
