Victor F Durham , NC December 26, 2014 Appliance: Model KENMORE 665.16483300 Odor in dishwasher stuck valve in vertical tube replace check valve The odor in the dishwasher was due to scum buildup in the walls, the racks, and in the lower part of the drain below the lower rotating arm. One of the valves in the vertical tube was stuck in the open position; since the valves cannot be replaced, the entire tube needed replacement. The check valve probably needed no replacement, but once I opened the bottom part, I decided to replace it anyway. I used this Youtube video to replace the tube, open and clean the drainage part of the washer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC8Vo_NyXls. Follow the video and you will have no problems. Tools needed: 10, 15, 20 torx set, needle nose pliers (for the check valve), rags or paper towels, sponge and baking soda to clean up the scum. The air inlet deteriorated and needed replacement; scum also built up under the broken air inlet and need to be removed. I used this Youtube video to remove the front panel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TivZAhGgweU&list=PLa3NprpWTTbXz2IGe4WDKPDvAyahEhmIQ&index=123. Be advised that in the Kenmore Elite washer it is very tricky to remove the screws holding the air inlet. Once the front panel is removed, close the door, disengage the plastic wire retainer and remove the horizontal metal bar that retained the wires. Use a piece of wood to pry the lower metal cover open and remove the screws with a 3/16 socket. Clean the area thoroughly behind the inlet, use duct tape to secure the new inlet in position. Use a magnetic hex tool or a piece of chewing gum and a 3/16 inch hex socket to reinsert the screws. Reassemble everything, remove duct tape, and you are in business. Evgueni P San Mateo , CA February 08, 2015 Appliance: Model KITCHENAID KUDP02FRSS2 Dishwasher stopped draining water the pump was running (i could hear the noise) but water would not go away I've opened sump housing to check for clogging but it was clean. When I removed check valve to inspect it I've found out that the round part of the valve was missing so I figured it might've blocked the water exit at drain hose or something like that. So I pulled the dishwasher out to get a full access to drain hose connector and the pump. Upon disconnecting the drain and checking its connector I indeed found the round piece totally blocking the hose and acting as a seal. I removed the piece with pliers and installed replacement check valve. Since I've ordered a newer and better pump I also decided to replace it. Now my dishwasher works like a brand new. Melinda P Grand Prarie , TX September 19, 2014 Drain pump wore out on a kitchen aid dishwasher Dishwasher was flooding the kitchen so I ordered these two parts in hopes of fixing the problem instead of buying a new one. Parts matched perfectly and took about 1 hour to get the machine back up and running. You have to almost take the bottom half of the machine apart to get to the drain pump. All in all not too bad of a repair, save your hard earned $$ and do it yourself! James S Limerick , ME November 16, 2014 Grinding noise on drain cycles in my kitchenaid dishwasher Hadn't had any issues with the unit for over 7 years, until I started hearing that unusual noise. Found a helpful how-to video on line, which showed me how to take down the water spray assembly (including that hidden screw!). The sump had a bunch of debris in it (toothpicks, wire ties, etc), which I cleaned...also found the chopper blade and screen were pretty beat up. Replacing the components was pretty easy, and it seems to have fixed the problem.
