Jacqueline B Brentwood , CA July 10, 2017 Not cooling in refrigerator or freezer of side by side refrigerator We Googled the symptoms, which brought us to your website. Based on the recommendations, we purchased a compressor starting device kit, defrost thermostat (just to be safe), and a condenser brush. We cleaned all the coils, replaced the compressor starting device and defrost thermostat using your instructions and video. IT WORKED!! We are on day four and the refrigerator and freezer are working! Thank you so much!! We thought we were going to have to purchase a new refrigerator and that would be $1500-$2500 to match our current kitchen appliances. David H Braddyville , IA October 23, 2015 Appliance: Model GRS20ZRH?? Fridge side too warm around 60 degrees f evaporator iced/frosted over Replaced defrost thermostat. Apparently got lucky though. It would have been nice to know the On/OFF temperature specification for the thermostat. I ordered the thermostat after verifying the heater coil resistance was not open (measured around 25 ohms with cheapie DMM). I also forced the defrost timer into defrost and verified 110V to the heater / thermostat. I timed the defrost timer which cut-out after about 30 minutes which seemed appropriate. The thermostat would not close after soaking in ice water for about 10 minutes. After replacing the thermostat, I immediately forced the timer into a defrost cycle, and still no heat from the heater. Bummer! I removed the new thermostat and soaked it in ice water for several minutes and it still wouldn't close. I was ready to condemn it like the original, but decided to reattach it to the evaporator tubing and after about 5 minutes of allowing the evaporator tubing to cool it to below 20F, it finally closed. I then reconnected the thermostat and forced the defrost timer into defrost again and wallah, heat and defrost worked! I was very pleased with the speed of package delivery. The condenser brush worked nicely to remove most of the 10 years of built up dust on the coils. The refrigerator has woked nicely now for several days. Hopefully, it will run for several more years. I have a similar refrigerator 30 years old that continues to run and run although I've had to replace the defrost heater coil in it three times. Scott M Saint James City , FL June 01, 2020 Whirlpool side by side making a clicking noise and had a warm freezer I replaced the start device assembly and the start capacitor. I made sure that the condenser fan and the evaporator fan were working by removing the appropriate covers, plugging it in and watching them run. Then I ordered the start assembly and capacitor. It runs great now. I ordered the parts at 3 in the afternoon and they arrived at noon the next day! Thanks AppliancePartsPros! Read More...
