Whirlpool WP8531242 Control Panel OEM Part

This was my first time fixing an appliance. After reading up on several reviews I concluded that the problem I had was likely the Control Panel (the front panel with the buttons) or the Main Board. Since I am by no means a pro at this, I decided to try the control panel first since it was the cheaper of the two and more likely the cause of my problem with my Kitchenaid Dishwasher. I called AppliancePartsPro, the associate on the phone heard my problem and came to a similar conclusion, that it was likely the control panel. I had it pricematched with another vendor, ordered, shipped via USPS. It arrived in 2-3 days. 30 minutes later, my dishwasher was all set! Directions: Unscrew the top four 'screws' from the inside of the dishwasher. The 'screws' are an interesting shape, not typical screws but I had one of those tool boxes with the multiple heads and one worked. They look almost like Allen screws but aren't. Once unscrewed, the control panel should come off and be held by two sets of cables and a ribbon cable to the main board, and the latch assembly This step is probably not necessary but I did it since it seemed delicate. Disengage the ribbon cable from the front panel merely by wiggling it gently away from the socket. Unclip the 'latch assembly' from the front panel. Just pull the clips apart and done. Unclip the 'main board' from the front panel. Be patient with this. There were two clips. While it seems like you need to pull the entire clip away from the center of the board, there are little tabs holding the inside that move, so not the entire clip, but the two tabs on the inside of the clip. Push out the small tabs that are touching the board on the inside of the clip outwards. This should release the board. With the Control Panel released, swap it out with the new panel. Reverse the process. Put the main board back in, put the ribbon back in (if you took it out in the first place), put the latch back in. It took me a little manipulation to get the panel in place but be patient and you will figure it out. This took the longest time in the entire process. Screw it back in and you're done! No expensive visit needed from the repairman and a sense of pride that you've done something right :-)
