Marc L North Branford , CT May 16, 2016 Appliance: KitchenAid 30" Built-In Electric Oven KESS907SSS00 Cooktop on my kitchenaid slide in range shattered word to wise don't place your pot tops face don on the stove the top formed a vacuum with the top and as the top cooled the vacuum increased to th VERY simple fix- you do not even have to pull the range out.. I ordered a new cooktop from Appliance parts Pros. The customer sales rep Alphonso was great and walked me through the general process. I could find no explicit instructions for the repair but I muddled my way through. The fix is simple on Kitchenaid/Whirpool slide in ranges. 1. Open the oven door and remove the two phillips head screws directly below the control panel that hold the panel down.2. Lift the control panel upward and out. You will need to finesse the gasket between the control panel and the cooktop a bit as the gasket can stick from grease etc. You will also need to prop up the control panel while you work. I partially closed the oven door to form a small quasi- shelf and my wife balanced the control panel on the "shelf" while I worked. 3. Remove two phillips head screws directly below the top that retain the front of the cooktop. There is a metal gasket retainer plate that also come off as the screws are removed.4. Gingerly lift the old cooktop up and out towards the front. The rear of the cooktop is retained by two small prongs that are integral to the cooktop. The process may require a little finesse as the gaskets under the top may stick a bit. 5 Clean all the gaskets with degreaser ( I used a rag and a little mineral spirits. 6. To assemble just reverse the whole process. Make sure that the cooktop is retained by the prongs at the back and all the way back before fully laying it down as reassembling the front screws. Stephen T The Villages , FL August 19, 2016 Appliance: Model KESS907-XSP00 Replaced cracked glass cooktop on kitchenaid slide in range kess907 xsp00 Looked up the part on AppliancePartsPros.com web site. It arrived 2 days later. Very helpful to have someone assist you with performing this job. My wife helped. Turn off the power, slide the range out, and unplug. Remove the two Phillips screws under the control panel, then lift and pull out. The wiring harnesses are still connected. We opened the oven door slightly and balanced the unit there using a piece of cardboard to prevent scratching. Remove the two Phillips screws on the front holding the cooktop bracket. The top is suppose to lift and slide forward, but had to use a flat scraper or 5-in-1 tool to separate the glass from the gasket/rubber tape that it rests on. Try not to damage it as you will have to reuse. Clean the gaskets and anything else that is dirty. Now just slide the new glass cooktop on being sure to engaging the rear brackets and position the front until the attached metal bracket lines up with the screw holes. Replace the 2 Phillips screws. Put the gasket back on the front edge of the glass cooktop and finesse the control panel back into place. There are 2 blunt ended studs that provide alignment. Reinstall the control panel Phillips screws. Plug in the range and slide back into place. Very glad that we did this job ourselves.
