Used floor jack to lift and secure door, left upper hinge point in place, removed lower hinge support, removed old cams and installed new ones and lubricated, secured and adjusted hinge .

Remove door and change part.

A broken cam can be bad news. The door can swing open from its own weight. I ordered a door closure kit (cams) plus shims. My fridge needs a stack of shims on the fridge door to align it vertically. The old shims had broken and pieces fell out. The lack of support may have caused the cams to fail since they sit on the shims. I used the new shim as a pattern to fabricate a single aluminum shim for more strength. The head of the screw anchoring the lower cam was torn up. Fortunately, it was an 8x32 machine screw. I had everything ready nearby since I didn't want to have the door off the fridge for too long. The aluminum shim plus the new cams aligned the door. My 31-year-old Raytheon Amana is loving life again.

I removed the upper door hinge bracket with a nut driver. I then opened and lifted the door off the lower hinge bracket. I then unscrewed (phillips head), replaced, and re-screwed the plastic hinge pieces on the bracket and door. I then lowered the door back on the lower bracket and closed the door. I then aligned the door to be even with the freezer door, and then replaced the top hinge bracket.
