Jack W Miami , FL February 15, 2016 Appliance: Maytag 36`` Electric Built-In Cooktop MEC7536WB01 A six inch element burned out on my maytag cook top TURNED OFF THE BREAKER AND UNHOOKED THE ELECTRIC CABLES AT THE WALL. REMOVED THE COOK TOP FROM THE COUNTER AND PLACED IT UPSIDE DOWN ON THE KITCHEN TABLE. I THEN REMOVED THE 12 SCREWS FROM AROUND THE UNIT AND LIFTED THE HOUSING OFF THE GLASS. THEN REMOVED THE FOUR WIRES TO THE BURNED OUT ELEMENT, THE CONNECTORS ARE DIFFERENT SIZES SO YOU CAN'T RECONNECT THEM INCORRECTLY. THEN REMOVED TWO SCREWS HOLDING THE ELEMENT IN PLACE. INSTALLED THE NEW ELEMENT, ATTACHED THE WIRES, SCREWED THE HOUSING PAN BACK ON, PUT THE COOK TOP BACK INTO THE COUNTER, HOOKED UP THE ELECTRIC AND TURNED ON THE BREAKER. NOTE: IF YOUR ELECTRIC CABLE IS LONG ENOUGH, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO JUST FLIP THE COOK TOP ON THE COUNTER AND NOT TOTALLY REMOVE IT. YOU WOULD STILL HAVE TO TURN OFF THE BREAKER THOUGH. ALSO, THERE IS A THIN FOAM GASKET UNDER THE GLASS WHERE IT MEETS THE COUNTER TOP. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE IT... YOU CAN GET SOME WEATHER STRIPPING AT YOUR FAVORITE HARDWARE STORE THAT WORKS JUST FINE.
