Matthew H Rocky Hill , CT October 25, 2016 Appliance: Jenn-Air Over The Range Microwave JMC8100ADS Microwave had no power and no lights I have a Jenn-Air microwave that didn't turn on and had no lights. It just stopped working completely. I unplugged the unit and had to remove the rear cover using a *security screw kit* that prevents people from opening the rear panel. Once opened, I removed the fuse and testing it with an OHM reader to determine that the fuse went bad. But I also had to determine why the fuse blew and noticed a sticky oily substance under the Capacitor. I used a rubber glove and needle nose pliers to remove the leads to the capacitor and then used the rubber glove and 2 screw drivers to see if the Capacitor was still holding a charge by shorting it and it wasn't. So I ordered a replacement capacitor and fuse. Once installed, I assembled the microwave and turned it on and it worked perfectly. I recommend being very caution when working with the capacitor because I read online that it could hold a very powerful charge, even though it was unplugged. So I was careful to use rubber gloves and tried shorting it to discharge the capacitor before working on the microwave. Keith G Houston , TX April 27, 2020 Appliance: General Electric Free Standing Microwave JVM1851WH04 Microwave blowing fuse for Magnetron / high voltage circuit (humming noise prior to fuse opening). Main Fuse did not open, only fuse for high voltage section was opened. Prior to the fuse blowing a louder than normal hum was heard from microwave for 1-2 seconds prior. Easy fix is the high voltage capacitor, so first checked the voltage across the capacitor terminals to ensure capacitor was discharged. Typically should be reasonably discharged within 30sec-1min assuming drain resistor is still in place. Removed the high voltage cap, and checked the capacitance and did not get a reading. Then checked the resistance across the terminals and found it was shorted with 1.5Ohms. Definitely bad capacitor. Diode checked out OK. Did not check anything on the magnetron and transformer since would require removing from wall. Replaced Fuse and Capacitor, and microwave working again. Jeff S Prosper , TX December 23, 2020 Appliance: Model JCM7010ADB No heat from microwave. All other functions seemed normal but nothing would heat at all. Eliminating the other top causes for malfunction; diode, cap, power supply, fuse, narrowed down to magnetron which incidentally had a cracked magnet ring. Received replacement in less than one week. Replaced part and unit function has been restored. Also replaced the light bulb while it was opened up. Ordered fuse and door switches just to have on hand should they ever fail. This being a 20-year-old unit parts are becoming unavailable. After researching replacement units I found it was going to be unlikely to find a unit to match the size and appearance of the current built-in over the stove as the cabinets were custom-built around the appliances. I hope to keep it running as long as possible. Read More... 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
