L. H Cartersville , VA July 08, 2016 Appliance: Kenmore Refrigerator 10670172990 Freezer cold/fridge warm all vent passages frozen solid water in fridge & condenser fan motor not working Replaced: condenser fan motor, defrost timer, defrost thermostat (bi-metal), and added a heat probe. Fan motor obviously shot... hard to turn by hand. Defrosted for 48 hours, cleaned & bleached drain tube. Never tried to test the old timer or bi-metal but it now runs perfectly and tightly maintains 39/0 degrees with dry fridge. When reassembled and powered up, compressor did nothing... I advanced the timer knob until condenser started. Hung the heat probe securely on defrost element and cut it short so it was positioned just above the drain (paranoid & over-kill). Could probably do the job (after defrosting) in less than an hour. Pleased (yet again) with result and appliance parts pros. Great resource for the handy homeowner. Thanks!! Michael M San Leandro , CA June 27, 2015 Appliance: Whirlpool Upright Freezer EV171NYMS03 Burnt smell then freezer stopped cooling Replaced the relay as it had slightly smoldered insulation edges. But then it turned out the fan motor (evap) had burned out, because the fan blade had shifted on the motor axis until it got blocked by a screw. Replaced evap motor and fan blade and everything works again! As the new fan blade now has a metal strip preventing unduly shift, this should never happen again (or in other words the original fan blade was of faulty design.) The heat probe I'd ordered because about 3 months ago the freezer drain got clogged by ice buildup. This piece actually requires calm nerves to install as you have to take apart almost everything around the defrost heater and then wrap the aluminum around the defrost heater electrical insulation tube without breaking it. Time will tell if this now helps avoiding drain blockages. Thomas G Berlin , CT June 22, 2015 Broken icemaker and ice build up/water dripping (defrost cycle problem) I bought a replacement Icemaker and Heat-Probe. The disassembly was a two-fer since I would have needed to remove the Icemaker to take out the back panel to access the defroster heating coil to mount the Heat-Probe. The most time consuming part was the removal/replacement of the frozen foods and thawing the ice buildup on the freezer floor with a blow dryer and making sure the drain was free flowing.
