Dennis K Pacifica , CA November 09, 2015 Appliance: Amana Refrigerator ATB1836ARS Amanda refrigerator too warm and its freezer too cold I read the help guide on the AppliancePartsPros.com web site and then decided to test my defrost heater with a volt/ohm meter. I read an open circuit. I then removed the radiant heater element from the refrigerator and see nothing wrong with the element, but the connection on both sides to it, that resemble a spark plug wire to an automotive plug, was corroded to a powder making no electrical connection. I then searched for the replacement part to find that Amana discontinued the part after only about 5 years after the refrigerator was built. I then found a replacement part, but when I tried to order it, I found that it was also discontinued. Since solder will not stick to this unit, I wrapped many turns of wire plus wrapped many turns of tight fitting wax string. This connection has been good for about 10 months. I recently found that my freezer began to be too cold, and the refrigerator too warm again, but it cleared up and all is good now. I then decided to order a part that is not an exact replacement from ApplianceParts.com. To use this part will only require me to modify the plug connector. I really like the AppliancePartsPros.com website and their service is great.
