Roger D Wayzata , MN May 09, 2014 Appliance: KitchenAid Built In Oven, Electric KEBS208DSS10 The oven door wouldn't close tightly I replaced the hinges, which involved removing the door by opening it all the way, inserting a small allen wrench into the locking pin hole on each of the two hinges, partially closing the door and pulling it toward me. I then laid the door stainless steel face up on a table, removed the 8 screws from the edge and pulled the bottom of the face up and toward me. The hinges lie loose in their compartments, so it's easy to pluck them out and drop the new ones in. To retrieve my allen wrenches from the old hinges, I used a large pliers to pull back the hinge arm. Jeffrey R Davis , CA February 25, 2017 Bottom door on kitchenaid oven would not close tightly; oven light always on After reading several stories, I decided to install new hinges. The only trick was aligning the new hinges with the holes in the door and getting the sheet metal screws to bite. Otherwise a pretty easy job. This did the trick; the door now closes tightly. I did not see any bend or obvious defect in the original hinges. However, I noticed that the tension from the springs is much stronger on the new hinges/bottom door than on the old hinges in the top door. Might have to replace the top door hinges, too. Robert D Pomona , CA January 30, 2016 Appliance: Model KITCHEN AID CONVECTION OVEN AND MICROWAVE BUILT IN Oven door would not stay closed heat would turn off and light would stay on For those who are in a pinch you can still use the oven by using a piece of tape or tie wrap to pull the latch and light switch together. This will let you still use the oven with the door slightly open. You just turn it off manually as before. At least your Prime Rib will finishing cooking for your guests I am getting a little faster at putting in the new springs. These are not the best design for a spring. A good word on these new springs, the door feels like it has a stronger pull upward to close the door. This is my 5th set of springs in this oven. We installed oven in 2003. If it happens I may have to ask for a new pair if its shorter than a year and they fail again. The door is a bit of a pain to take apart. To make things easier use 2 people to lift the door back into the oven.
