Roger C Arab , AL April 13, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Electric Dryer MDE5500AYW It would chirp or beep even when not in use it may work or not work you could power off and back on and it may run all day I narrowed it to either the control board or the touchpad assy. I did get it to go into diagnostics mode and one time got an error code of 08 which was according to the technical sheet a stuck switch on the the touchpad. So i replaced the led console assy last week and so far so good. Debert T Crownsville , MD September 12, 2015 Display lights but will not start This is the second time in five year I've had to replace this part. Both times it began with the dryer "chirping " all the time causing us to unplug the dryer between uses. Eventually, the display freezes on pause and will not run. Replacing is quite easy, a few screws in the back and it lifts off attached now only by a ribbon cable. After gently removing the ribbon cable replace the control panel by performing your removal actions in reverse. I did notice the cost of this replacement part has rose about 40 % since I last bought one five years ago. This is a easy repair. Heidi W Fort Mill , SC January 26, 2017 Controls activating spontaneously beeping The dryer behaved as if I were pressing buttons on the keypad. Dryer beeps, display lights up. This would happen in the middle of the night or even in the middle of a cycle. After running the control diagnostic listed on the service technician sheet inside, I found it was the "Sensor Dry" button. Unplugging the keypad from the control circuit board (turn the power off first) would cause the misbehavior to stop. The repair was easy, only requiring a #2 Phillips head screwdriver and 5 minutes. Turn the power off, remove the top row of screws behind the console, gently pry the metal plate back away from the console and pivot the console forward. Unplug the flat keypad cable, being careful not to bend the pins on the control board. It helps to lift up on both ends at the same time. Remove the four screws holding the plastic control board bracket, and move it over to the new console. Once again careful with the keypad connector plugging it in. There's a small plastic filler plate on the back of the old console on the right side, it should be moved over. Console on, screws in. That's it! Read More...
