Jeffrey F Hillsborough , NJ October 20, 2018 Appliance: KitchenAid 48" Built In Refrigerator KSSC48QTS02 Ice was melting and dripping on the floor and freezing up the ice crushing mechanism (driver shaft and motor) Replaced not only the ice chute door flap which was squashed from years of use but the mechanism and motor that operates the flap. The old mechanism seemed to work but it seemed a little sloppy or loose. I knew the flap was bad but for the extra few dollars I thought since I had to take the cover off anyway, why not replace the whole thing. I’m glad I did. The new motor and mechanism has been reengineered and is much tighter in the way it operates. The ice chute door seats securely and the ice no longer melts from warm air seeping into the ice dispenser. The repair took less than an hour and now works perfectly. Glen S Scottsdale , AZ February 03, 2019 Appliance: KitchenAid Refrigerator KSSC36QTS02 Water dripping from ice maker chute Repair was very easy - this was a KSSC36QTS (KitchenAid SS). First, you have to remove the drip tray by simply pulling it out. Then remove the 4 screws attaching the SS skin to the dispenser. Then you have to remove the SS skin on freezer door: Two screws at the bottom three at the top, and several on the left side. To remove some of the screws you need to open the door. Pull the SS skin off. The ice/water dispenser will be exposed. There are 4 1/4 inch nut screws - remove those. The control panel pulls away - you don't need to disconnect it all of the way, just let it hang. The motor and freezer cute flap are now exposed. Disconnect the electrical connection from the motor. Two nut screws hold the assembly in place. Remove them. Now, place the new door on the new motor assembly and then re-install everything reverse order. Steve F Peoria , AZ July 06, 2025 Appliance: KitchenAid 48" Built In Refrigerator KSSC48QVS02 Ice dispenser chute door was not closing Doing a bit of DIY analysis, I found the ice maker door motor was not closing the chute door completely and allowing ice cubes to melt. The mechanism had a large amount of slack in it and didn't apply pressure against the ice maker chute any longer. Replacement of the motor and assembly along with the chute door fixed the problem.
