Gerald P Fridley , MN March 14, 2023 Appliance: Whirlpool Laundry, Electric Dryer WED99HEDW0 The dryer wouldn't start. I just wanted to share that troubleshooting can be tricky, but it did all work out in the end. Pressing the 'START' button got the rear fan running, but the drum did not turn and the indicator lights stayed stuck on 'SENSING'. Last time we had a problem it was because there was 1/2" build-up of lint on the intake of the heater coil right behind the EVAPORATOR LINT FILTER, which by the way requires almost COMPLETE disassembly of the dryer, but isn't that difficult and probably saves at least $200 in a service call. Maybe even more like $300. We had done it two years earlier, after buying the dryer 6 years before that. After doing this a few times I got an error code: F3E2. Some online searches said that the error code indicates a faulty MOISTURE SENSOR. Found a service manual online- THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT- you really need the service manual, and it really should be for the _exact_ model that you're working on. The service manual said that error code indicates faulty OUTLET THERMISTOR. I did the tests for both and they came out fine. The manual said for both 'REPLACE THE CCU', which I did, but it did not solve the problem. So then I replaced the MOISTURE SENSORS and the wire harness, which also did not solve the problem. So being stuck on SENSING did not tell us much useful information. At this point I could have replaced the OUTLET THERMISTOR, but since it passed it's test, as did the MOISTURE SENSOR, I didn't have much hope for that approach. Then I had a thought: maybe the fact that the drum isn't turning is CAUSING the SENSING errors- maybe the drum MUST turn in order for SENSING to proceed! So I found that the motor testing section is STEP TWO of the diagnostic/testing section. SUCCESS! MORAL OF THE STORY: Maybe I should have stepped through the diagnostic/testing section in order- I think the manual might even say as much. BONUS for reading this far: get the Repair Kit and replace all the parts it comes with- it's a bargain. I'm sure that sticky parts were the reason that the motor burned out. It works like new now.
