Michael L Provo , UT February 27, 2015 Appliance: Amana Refrigerator SQD26VW Refrigerator would not cool anymore 15 year old amana 25 5cf Used Google to troubleshoot the issue. Inside the freezer I took the back off. Noticed two things. The evaporator motor was not turning and the top half of the coils were frozen over. Obvious fan not spinning issue. I felt the motor and it was hot. Spun the fan it it started spinning. Put it all back together. Ran OK for 5-6 more days then same issue. I ordered the new motor and then and spun the fan again. It lasted for 2 days. Had to spin the fan to get it going 2 more times until the new motor came. Easy install. 12 screws for the back of the freezer. Remove 3 wires but wrote down the colors to connector. Removed two screws for the housing bracket. After install the fan would slide down the motor shaft while spinning and click against the housing. I had to wrap a piece of electrical tape on the shaft to prevent the fan from slipping down. 10 days now and all is well. Alan S Stony Brook , NY November 27, 2015 Appliance: Amana Refrigerator SRD26VL Evaporator fan motor we noticed an intermittent squealing sound in the freezer compartment Rather than waiting for the motor to fail I decided do the repair on my terms. The repair video was very helpful although on my model, SDR26VL, there is no need to remove the shelf brackets or the ice bucket. Additionally, the video identifies wires by color and position. Since the motor runs on AC no polarity is required. My model had different colors and no ground. The new motor was not exactly the same as the old one. First, the new motor had male electrical fittings so I needed to attach female fittings to the refrigerator wires. I also needed to create a ground connection as the old motor did not have one. The motors use rubber spacers as a compression fitting between the two metal brackets on this model. When I first installed the motor (first time) I did not notice the difference in the motors. The next day I noticed no air flow. The fan had stopped turning because a rubber spacer had started to brush against the motor shaft. This was easily adjusted and the motor runs fine. Advice: Check that the rubber spacer on the fan side of the motor does not go past the armature housing. If the motor had stalled while I was not present it may have burned out. Overall I was happy with the repair. It took me far longer than it should (2 hours) have but it is done and working.....quietly! If I had to do the exact repair again it would be less than 1 hour (with food removal) Read More... 7 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Nut Drivers

John K Northport , NY July 29, 2022 The refrigerator stopped cooling. The freezer was only a little cool not freezing. I watched a bunch of tube videos including the one by AppliancePartsPros.com. After zeroing in on three possible items. The evaporator fan motor, defrost timer, and defrost thermostat, I ordered all three. The parts came in about 3 days. I then couldn't decide which to try out first. I called AppliancePartsPros.com and spoke to a technician, who walked me through the scenarios. He suggested I start with the defrost thermostat first. I had noticed that the original one looked a little swollen. I replaced it (had to do some cutting and splicing of the wires, but when I was finished, it worked perfectly. It was indeed the defrost thermostat. I'm so glad I spoke to your technician. Thanks a million! I was able to return the parts I didn't use with no problem.
