Whirlpool 4342528 Oven Bake And Broil Igniter OEM Part

The oven would not heat up but the broiler and stove top burners all worked so I replaced the igniter. The part arrived quicker than I expected - one day with regular shipping - and the repair also went much quicker than expected. After accessing the igniter I was able to unplug the plastic modular connection. Instead of pulling the oven out from the wall - which would have been a huge pain - I was able to reach the plug by removing the bottom storage drawer under the oven. From there it was just a matter of routing the wiring and attaching the new igniter. Just be advised that the new igniter will need to 'burn off' that new smell. I don't recall having a DIY repair go any easier. The only issue some people may have with the repair is be able to reach to the very back of the oven for access to the ignitor and getting on the floor for the disconnection/connection of the new plug.

Replaced the glow plug with ease. A few screws and an electrical plug tie in and the job was finished. It took no longer than 10 minutes.

I do suggest that you add a diagnostic step to the video. In my case, I should have tried the broiler first. If that igniter wouldn't glow either, then it might be the control box that was faulty, and in that case I wouldn't have bought the igniter yet. In my case, after the part arrived, I thought to check the broiler igniter and it glowed fine. This gave me greater confidence that the problem was the lower (bake) igniter.

It was more than obvious that the glow igniter was broken (fractured coil) and it was hoped that it was the sole problem with the range. I initially sourced the igniter from another seller that described the part as "genuine replacement part" and "Whirlpool item", but never had "Whirlpool" and "Genuine" together. The part pictured appeared correct, but with a price too good to be true. The part arrived in a plan brown box, and while the contents were generally the same (e.g. hardware), the coil was slightly different (stretched at the beginning loops.) The part immediately blew after installation. I suspect either the coil was made of inferior material or had a fracture in it. I went on the search for a genuine Whirlpool part, and here is where I found it. It at least says so on the box I received and the coils were much more similar to the OE part (which has been updated by Whirlpool, so the original is not available.) I installed the new part from AppliancePartsPros, and our problem was solved. The oven and broil light as they should.
