D M Pittsoboro , NC April 03, 2016 Appliance: Maytag Electric Range MER6875AAQ Upper element in top oven burned out The upper element in the top oven burned out. This was likely due to sugary food that had gotten on the element when the food was moved in/out of the element. The element was coated in crusty, burned food and the element was cracked in six or so places. The oven is a Maytag Gemini double oven range. The model number appears to be MER6875AAQ based on our receipt and manual. We did not pull out the oven since it is difficult to do so in our kitchen. Taking out the old element only requires the removal of four screws, two on the element and two on a bracket that hold the element. The oven door lifts off very easily. Just open the door to the broil position and the door slides up and off. After removing the old element, the right side wire was long enough to pull into the oven 1-2 inches. I wrapped some long and stiff wire tie around the power wire to keep it from slipping out of the oven. The left side element was a PITA since it could barely be pulled into the oven with needle nose pliers. This wire pulled back into the back of the oven several times but I could pull it back into the oven with the needle nose pliers. A 90 degree needle nose pliers made getting the left side element plugged in much easier. It would have been easier on the right side but I was able to use regular needle nose pliers to make the connection which I could not do on the left side. I think it took 45-60 minutes to make the repair. If the power wires are long enough, I think it can be done in 30 minutes. Time is used up dealing with seeing and holding the power wires so they can be disconnect, which is fairly easy but connecting the new element is more time consuming due to the short wire. If the wires are long enough to pull into the oven this is a quick and easy repair. It is not too bad if you have 90 degree needle nose pliers. Adrienne L La Mesa , CA November 14, 2014 The broiler element in the top oven of my 12 year old maytag gemini broke and caught fire I had the choice of spending $2K on another double oven stove or $60 on two elements. (I felt more secure about replacing both bake and broil elements just in case the fire had damaged the bake element) It was an easy decision and quick replacement! Power was already off to the stove so I cleaned up the fire retardent mess. I even found easy instructions dismantling the oven door in order to clean the powder residue from between the glass. I then removed the rack and remaining old elements. I taped the ends so they wouldn't slip back into the hole in the back of the stove. Six screws held everything in place. Total time for element replacement 15 minutes! It took me over an hour to clean up the mess the fire extinguisher made. The video was perfect. My son watched it and then installed the part. Took about 15 minutes. Loved the trick of putting something on the wires so they didn't slide back into the stove.
