Whirlpool WP661658 Dishwasher Drain Pump OEM Part

When the wife told me the dishwasher was leaving water in the bottom of the tub I hoped it'd be that the filter was just clogged. Nope. We usually clean our dishes before cleaning them which always makes me laugh but the drain was clear after 9 years of use, so I figured it was the pump. This was a $200 minimum for the appliance guy to replace, so I thought I'd try and do it myself. Job wasn't too bad. Found a youtube video from another machine than mine which I hoped would help.. these things are pretty much made the same way. Every step was pretty easy until I got to the pump. I didn't see the clip I needed to press down with a screwdriver to easily turn the old pump out of placement. After a few tries, then stopping to just look at it, I found the culprit, pressed the clip and it turned out easily. Replaced everything back the same way I took it apart and had one issue with the water line dripping. Note to anyone else doing this job, take care of the water line as you can bend the connectors and cause another issue of the line dripping. Ended up replacing a water line connector I must have bent at the local big box store and all is fine now! So glad I did this myself! The money I saved helped me buy a new blower I've been budgeting for! Job was a little more than I will usually attempt, but found it was easy enough for any average capable guy that doesn't mind crawling around the floor attaching parts for a few minutes..I timed my repair, took me a little over an hour, but the water line kept me busy for a while longer unfortunately.

After removing the lower cover plate, I could easily see the drain pump, so I simply reached in to remover the pump assembly which was tight, but removable. I used towels to soak up the water that ran out to drain pipe. I discovered the new pump assembly had a different electrical connection than the original. Rather than cut the old connector plug off and add new connection pig tails, I swapped the electrical portion of the pump assembly. The actual plastic pump disconnects from the electrical drive portion of the assembly, so I put the new pump with the original electrical drive. Then installed the pump assembly. It might have been easier to remove the dish washer from under the counter, but would have taken much more time.

Dishwasher was flooding the kitchen so I ordered these two parts in hopes of fixing the problem instead of buying a new one. Parts matched perfectly and took about 1 hour to get the machine back up and running. You have to almost take the bottom half of the machine apart to get to the drain pump. All in all not too bad of a repair, save your hard earned $$ and do it yourself!

Removed drain pump and drain hose. Found blockage in hose, cleared. Reinstalled hose. Installed new pump and check valve (inside washer).

I cleaned out the dishwasher and found the check valve was bad. The Dishwasher started draining ok, until it would stop draining again every 2 weeks. I would vacuum out the water, check for clogs and found nothing. So I checked with Appliance Parts Pros for videos. Found that there were only a couple of things that could be bad. So by process of elimination, I ordered a NEW Drain Pump. Being 58 year old woman, I figured how bad could it be? Actually not bad. I watched the video and did exactly as it said and now my dishwasher is up and running great!!! Thank you Appliance Parts Pros for the video and such great parts.
